Growing up, my family played mini golf quite often. It’s one of my sister’s favorite things to do so every summer she’d find any excuse and opportunity to have us all play a round.

Some times though, there just aren’t enough moments together in the day to make a whole family outing to play an entire round. But what could be easier then stepping into your own backyard?

Here’s our version of do it yourself mini golf.

mini golf 8It’s simple and easy for kids and only takes five minutes to prepare. Not only that, but it costs next to nothing to make and you probably have the supplies on hand right now.

mini golf 3We used two empty paper towel rolls, a toilet paper roll and a roll of duct tape.

mini golf 4Just tape the two paper towel rolls together lengthwise and then the toilet paper roll at a right angle.

mini golf 5Cover the tubes in duct tape and you have a pretty sturdy and not terribly dangerous golf club for kids.

You can use a tin can for the hole, just be sure to cover all sharp edges with tape.

These are just the basics. There are so many ways you can make this game your own. You can make obstacles with boxes, sticks and stones or even build your own smooth course with plywood. I like this version because it was so fast. With just a little instruction, your kids can pretty much make their own entertainment out of recyclables.
