Cold season is no fun when you've got coughing, sniffling kids that don't feel well. Here's a simple solution to soothe those scratchy throats and hacking coughs that keep them up at night. Homemade Cough Drops.
Yes it's simple enough to buy them at the store but isn't it nice to know what ingredients are in the products we use. Especially when we're not feeling well already. These kids friendly cough drops will have them on the road to recovery in no time!
- 1 chamomile tea bag
- 1 peppermint tea bag
- 1/2 t. cinnamon
- 1/2 t. ginger
- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 3/4 c. natural honey
Steep all but the honey together for 10 minutes. Strain the water. Add honey. Put in a saucepan and heat over medium until boiling.Use candy thermometer to reach 300º F. Don't let it burn, let it cool until syrup consistency. Spoon onto parchment paper to cool. Coat with cornstarch to keep from sticking together. Keep in airtight container.
The fun part is that you can make these with your kids together. Just make sure you provide adequate supervision. To good health!
