Having a new baby can be intimidating at times when they begin to cry and you can't figure out why.  Imagine that you could understand your new baby's need before they even begin to cry. It is possible!

All babies speak the same language from birth no matter where in the world. Priscilla Dunstan learned what these sounds mean together with her son and is bringing the information to other parents.

In the first three months of life, babies have a reflex tone that responds to their needs. They use this to communicate before they really start to cry. If their needs are met, the baby calms down before really starting to scream.

understanding baby talk

"Neh" = I'm hungry.

"Owh" = I'm tired and I want to sleep.

"Heh" = Something is uncomfortable for me. (ex. too hot or cold, too tight, wet diaper)

"Eair" = I have air in my stomach

"Eh" = I have to burp.

If the babies needs are met based on these signals given they will continue communicating in this way up even after seven months. If not, they will starts to lose this reflex and by six months the sounds will no longer be discernible.

The first video gives a quick overview of these sounds along with baby examples. The second is a more detailed explanation and shows parents using the technique with their babies. The next time your baby starts making sounds, listen and see if you can figure out their need before you have a full out wailer on your hands.
