teaching kids to show kindness Valentines Day is approaching and what could be a better opportunity to teach your kids to show love and kindness? Sometimes it’s hard as a kid to understand the concept of showing kindness until you give them a real solid example. Here are a few ideas to encourage loving behavior. You could suggest these ideas to your kids and have them pick one or two, or go in together and complete the whole list!
  • Have your kids leave an encouraging note for their brother, sister, parent or teacher. For those who haven’t mastered writing yet, have them draw a picture that they think means love and give it to someone special.
  • Bake cookies or a special treat for the neighbors. This can be a collaborative effort for the whole family!
  • Make a care package for kids in other countries that don’t have the luxuries you do. Or even more simple, have your kids pick out a toy they would like for themselves and take it the local homeless shelter or to someone you know is in need.
  • Make dinner for the family or help mom out depending on age. Even younger kids can help by setting the table.
  • Older kids can spend time with their younger siblings, reading or playing something they would enjoy.
So often this holiday is seen as a ‘Hallmark” holiday, only there to make more money for the greeting card companies. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! Valentine’s Day is about showing love and kindness which is something even the youngest can learn with a little encouragement.
