I remember reading in a book when I was little about a girl who made herself stilts out of tin cans and string.

I thought that was so cool but for whatever reason, never did it for myself. But that image has always stuck with me. Now as a mother, I’m again looking for fun ideas for kids and I feel like this is my opportunity, my second chance at childhood.

tin can stiltsSo this our version of tin can walking stilts.

tin can stilts 2Take two tin cans and poke holes across from each other close to the bottom of the can. We used a screw driver and hammer and it worked pretty easily.

tin can stilts 4Have your child hold both ends of your rope or string at a comfortable height when looped under their foot. Cut two strings this length and thread them through the holes. Tie them in a double knot.

tin can stilts 5To have your kids even more involved in the process, let them decorate their own cans. We used tape  for ours.

This can be fun for kids to practice coordination and hone their gross motor skills. And it’s a great way to view the world from way up high!
