Tic, Tac, Toe is an ages old game that used to entertain kids in those moments when boredom strikes. Traditionally, all you would need is a pencil and paper but this travel version adds a little something special to the mix.

This is Buggy Tic, Tac, Toe.

We started with a bunch of plastic water bottle caps that needed a purpose, turned half into ladybugs and the other half into beetles.

tic-tac-toe-1It was fairly quick and easy to paint the bugs just waiting for the paint to dry between layers. I used the stick end of a paintbrush to make the dots.

Then I traced and cut out circles from a cardboard pizza box. These fit perfectly in the backs of the lids and most were snug enough without using glue.

The cardboard gave a level surface for the magnets to attach.

Taping a few ribbons to a magnetic surface made a portable Tic, Tac, Toe board.

This game is a fun way to repurpose something that you would normally think of as trash into something creative. It's so easy these days for kids to get bogged down in the commercialism that surrounds us.You can use this opportunity to teach your kids to be resourceful in their playing.

Buggy Tic, Tac, Toe is also great for kids on long car rides. All you need is a magnetic surface such as a baking pan to keep your pieces from sliding around.
